The differential is probably the weakest leak of any VW transmission and has be since the watercooled versions hit the U.S. back in '74. Because of this we highly recommend replacing the stock open spider gear diff with an aftermarket torque biasing unit as one of the first upgrades for performance, durability and reliability.
